Portable Half Cell - Submersible Ag/agcl Reference Cells - Fontana 103s
Fontana Instruments offers new portable silver -silver chloride reference cell to measure electrical potentials for corrosion engineers in marine services. This electrode is recommended for measurement of electric potentials between contact points for surveying purpose.
Features:
Rugged ultraviolet and chemically resistant inert ceramic tubing especially embedded into PVC body with several holes makes easy survey in the sea right from sea shore to deep sea survey. Continuous water retaining and draining capability for the ideal survey at all time. For deep sea water applications, reference cells are fitted with insulated cable along with dummy weight and nylon rope to float in sea water.
Specially made ceramic with preheated uniform, controlled ceramic porosity assist silver- silver chloride wire reduce electrical resistance and no requirement of moistening. Excellent shelf life and highest sensing area allows measurements with stability.
Long Life: Designed long life reference cell
Applications:
Direct insertion to see water reference. It can be used for fresh water, brackish water, marine and offshore with or without chlorides. Reference cells are supplied with 15 feet (5 mts) 4mm sq. insulated copper wire along dummy weight and nylon rope to floating in deep sea water to assist survey from ship, boat, barges.
Engineered for Harsh EnvironmentsDesigned for marine, field, industrial, and laboratory settings, the Fontana 103s endures full immersion (IP68) and performs seamlessly in saline water, marine environments, and wet soils. Its corrosion-resistant, robust construction ensures accurate performance under demanding conditions while remaining lightweight and portable for easy handling during surveys.
Precision and Stability in ReadingsWith an electrode potential of +0.197 V (relative to standard hydrogen electrode at 25C) and accuracy within 10 mV across a -2.5 V to +2.5 V range, this reference cell delivers long-term stability and high-resolution output. The durable Ag/AgCl sensor and plastic body provide dependable readings for up to two years of continuous use.
Simple Operation and ConnectivityNo external power is requiredthe unit is passive and ready for immediate deployment. The standardized 5-meter cable and banana plug (or custom connector) offer easy integration with survey equipment. Minimal maintenance and easy cleaning keep downtime low, while flexible connectivity adapts to varying field requirements.
FAQs of Portable Half Cell - Submersible Ag/agcl Reference Cells - Fontana 103s:
Q: How do I use the Fontana 103s Ag/AgCl reference cell during cathodic protection surveys?
A: Simply connect the reference cell using the provided cable and banana plug (or your custom connector) to your measurement system. Place the electrode into saline water, wet soil, or marine environments near the structure you want to test. The cell provides a stable reference potential without additional power supply, making it quick and straightforward to deploy.
Q: What are the recommended maintenance steps for this portable half-cell reference electrode?
A: Maintenance is minimal. Rinse the electrode with clean water after each use, especially if exposed to heavy sediment or debris. If needed, gently clean the sensor tip using a soft cloth. Store the unit in a clean, dry environment within its specified temperature range (0C to 60C) when not in use.
Q: When and where is this submersible reference electrode most beneficial to use?
A: The Fontana 103s is ideal for continuous or routine cathodic protection surveys in marine, industrial, and field environmentsparticularly where equipment must be submerged, such as around pipelines, tanks, or coastal structures. It excels in saline water, wet soils, and high-humidity locations.
Q: What is the expected service life and reliability of this reference cell under continuous use?
A: The reference cell is rated for over two years of continuous service, thanks to its solid-state Ag/AgCl sensor and robust construction. It maintains stable performance and accurate readings with minimal risk of drift during its operational life.
Q: How accurate are the measurements, and what is the range of this device?
A: The Fontana 103s features a measurement range of -2.5 V to +2.5 V with a resolution of 10 mV and an accuracy of 10 mV. Its stable electrode potential at +0.197 V ensures precise reference for your cathodic protection measurements.
Q: What benefits does the fully submersible IP68 rating provide?
A: The IP68-rated enclosure allows for complete submersion under water, ensuring that the reference cell is protected against ingress of water, dirt, and corrosive substances. This makes it exceptionally reliable for long-term use in harsh marine and wet environments.
