About Zahn Cup
Zahn Cup
Caltech India offers Zahn Cup. BGD 126 Zahn Cups can be used to quickly measure the viscosity of liquids such as Paint, Ink, Varnishes, Syrup and Oil. They are produced according to ASTM D816, ASTM D1084 and ASTM D4212. The Stainless Steel Cups are molded precisely and the orifices are precision drilled using high-speed CNC drilling.
Each cup has a 12-inch loop handle to allow the cup to be dipped by hand into a liquid container. At the center of this handle is a finger-ring for holding the cup in a vertical position during use. Their orifice diameters are set at the factory for appropriate results with applicable NIST traceable Newtonian oils.
Efficient Viscosity MeasurementThe Zahn Cup No. 2 employs the widely recognized efflux method to determine the viscosity of various liquids, such as paint and ink. By simply measuring the time it takes for a set volume to flow through the orifice, you can achieve accurate results within seconds, making this device essential in laboratory and industrial quality control.
Durable and Corrosion ResistantConstructed from high-quality stainless steel with a polished finish, the Zahn Cup No. 2 offers excellent resistance to corrosion and is simple to clean after use. The sturdy design, paired with a range of orifice materials, ensures longevity and reliability in demanding environments.
Portable Design for Versatile UseLightweight and hand-held, this Zahn Cup model is easy to transport and operate, allowing for on-site viscosity testing in a variety of locations. Its ergonomic handle and compact dimensions make it convenient for both laboratory professionals and field technicians.
FAQ's of Zahn Cup:
Q: How is viscosity measured using the Zahn Cup No. 2?
A: Viscosity is determined by filling the Zahn Cup with the liquid sample and timing how long it takes for the liquid to completely flow out through the 2 mm orifice at standard room temperature (20C 1C). The efflux time, measured in seconds, directly indicates the liquid's viscosity.
Q: What types of liquids can be tested with this viscosity cup?
A: The Zahn Cup No. 2 is suitable for measuring the viscosity of a wide range of liquids, including paints, inks, varnishes, and other similar media used in laboratory and industrial applications.
Q: When should the Zahn Cup No. 2 be used for viscosity checks?
A: This cup is ideal for quick, in-process viscosity checks or quality control tests during production or laboratory analysis, especially when immediate results are needed within a general measurement range of 5 to 120 seconds.
Q: Where can the Zahn Cup No. 2 be utilized for testing?
A: Thanks to its portable, handheld design, the cup can be used flexibly in laboratories, industrial sites, production lines, and field applications, wherever viscosity measurement of suitable liquids is required.
Q: What is the process for cleaning and maintaining the Zahn Cup?
A: After use, simply rinse the cup thoroughly with an appropriate solvent or cleaner for the tested liquid, followed by gentle wiping. The polished stainless steel construction ensures it is easy to clean and provides strong resistance to corrosion, prolonging the cup's operational life.
Q: What advantages does the Zahn Cup No. 2 offer for industrial and laboratory professionals?
A: Users benefit from rapid, repeatable viscosity determinations, robust corrosion resistance, easy cleaning, and transportability. Its straightforward design and reliable results make it a valuable tool for quality assurance and process control.
